In late November, eight French Immersion students from the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District’s eastern region travelled to Ottawa for a university/college tour. Students were chosen from among 22 applicants who signed up for a chance to avail of this amazing learning experience. Among the students in attendance, five go to Holy Spirit High School in Conception Bay South and the three others attend Gonzaga High School in St. John’s. These students are representative of the high caliber of instruction received by NLESD students within second language-studies, as they were picked based on their second-language skills demonstrated through a written rational and an in-depth French interview.
The Ottawa colleges tour project was a partnership between the NLESD and the National Health Consortium to provide our students the opportunity to see the options in healthcare that are available to bilingual students and was a great opportunity for some of our outstanding students.
Congratulations to the students who attended! From Holy Spirit Megan Kieley, Jakiera Rideout, Hailey Owens, Anna Broaders, and Olivia Cumbie, and from Gonzaga High, Kelsea Furlong, Amy Julien-Fowler, and Amanda Parrell.
Grand travail, les étudiants! Bonne chance avec vos études futures.
