Gonzaga Student Attends We Day

We Day Atlantic Canada in Halifax on Friday, November 27.

Gonzaga student, George Abbott, was selected to participate in the recent We Day held in Halifax.

We Day is a signature initiative of Free the Children, a national charity founded by Craig Kielburger and his brother Marc. Craig was inspired to create Free the Children at only twelve years old when he was propelled into action by a devastating story of child labour. Discouraged by the opportunities that existed for young people to get involved, Craig and his brother Marc created the organization “for youth by youth” aimed at empowering youth to take action and affect local and global change.

Since that time, Free the Children has become one of the most successful and well respected charities in the world, and has received numerous international awards.

We Day events, which have been held across the country, in the US and most recently in the UK, came to Atlantic Canada for the first time in 2013. Featuring a variety of celebrity activists and motivational speakers, We Day is a day of inspiration, education and celebration aimed at empowering youth to create change in the world. All youth who are invited to attend the celebrity-packed event earn their tickets by completing at least one domestic and one international project.

Congratulations, George!
