Duke of Edinburgh – Hike Leaders Needed

Seeking adventure? Looking to show others how to really enjoy nature, teamwork, ingenuity and endurance?

Yes? Well the Duke of Edinburgh International Award (offered through Gonzaga Regional High) needs you!

Hikes are being planned now for May and June 2014 and we are looking for experienced adventurers to help lead hikes on the following (proposed) dates:

  • May 2nd-4th (2 nights)
  • May 10th-11th (1 or 2 nights)
  • May 17th-19th (2 or 3 nights)
  • June 6th-8th (1 or 2 nights)

For each hike, in addition to hike leaders, we will need at least one employee of the English/French School District and several responsible adults. There are currently about 10 students who are completing Bronze, about 55 who are working toward Silver and about 18 who are just about finished Gold. We are hoping to offer a Gold Award hike in early September for candidates who complete their Silver by the middle of August. The young adults enrolled in the program are keen and engaged; they will benefit greatly by your involvement.

Once confirmed, we will coordinate training and all preparations required for successful adventurous journeys.

Details about the new international standards and the specific number of days and nights required for expeditions are available at

If you’d like to add an additional date or propose a different adventure (canoeing, kayaking, snowshoeing, horseback riding, dog sledding…) please get in touch with the school. All suggestions are welcome.
